Most of the stations in this area are still post-pay. I know of one that's strictly pre-pay (where they also mark all twenties checking for counterfeit), and a couple of others that require pre-payment only on pumps the attendant can't see from behind the register.
It's not much of a stretch to imagine stations eventually going cashless, accepting only credit or debit card payment at the pump.
dcb
