In retrospect, he only one I wish I would have kept was the 1966 Corvette coupe. It was Silver Pearl with silver leather interior and the 36 gallon tank. Unknown to me at the time, there were only 66 big tanks sold in 1966 and the price for them today is astronomical!
I never filled that tank up completely for three reasons:
When street racing out in California in the 60's, 36 gallons was a lot of weight to have to haul around.
(My biggest nemesis was the 1969 Mustang Mach 1 429)
If I ever got into an serious accident
(heaven forbid) in a fiberglass car with a 36 gallon tank full of high-octane... can you say "shiny Molotov cocktail"?
But the most practical reason was: On a Saturday night I could find better things to do with a
$10.00 bill than spend it on a full tank of gas
