I have no idea when Chrysler bought AMC out. The point is that Jeeps didn't become "chrysler", meaning they were not built on chrysler platforms with chrysler motors, until 1993 when the Grand Cherokee was introduced. The plain jane cherokee didn't become Chryslerized until it's redesign in 1996. Chrysler used AMC's motors and platforms for several years until bringing it all under one roof and destroying the brand.
