There is no need to actually start the engine to run the test. You only need to turn on the ignition, i.e. the dash lights. Don't engage the starter.

In fact It would not be possible to do the test with the engine running, you have to shift the lever from range to range, and switch on and off the manual [MANU on the dash] button I think, if I remember correctly.

The second one at the bottom is the detail for TCU codes. There are two methods, one for existing codes, one for old codes. Note at the top, it starts with ignition OFF.
