does the AVD engage in reverse?

I only ask because I heard the tires spin in when backing out of 10" snow, I know my AWD is working properly, new trannie, duty C soleniod, I had it up in the air and checked that all wheels spun. Does the soleniod engage the rear wheels in reverse?
