Using an MB Quart crossover, part of a component set, and connecting aftermarket tweeters in the stock locations have yielded good results. The stereo in my last Pearlie sounded great. If I really wanted to bring it up to the next level, I would have installed an amplifier, but I did not feel the need to do so.
Edit: I highly recommend those speakers as they are reasonably-priced as well.

How much wiring modification do you have to do to install the crossover between the door speakers and the remote tweeters?
