It would take a serious short to blow an 80 amp fuse. But still, there is the possibility that the fuse had fatigued from old age and heat, and a normal load killed it off.
I hope someone at least takes the time to stick a multimeter in the socket and makes sure that the short is not still present before wasting a brand new fuse.
