I'm sure maybe you tried this already, but have you looked for anything trapped inside the rails and such? Leaves, sticks, etc.. that could be compressed enough by using the wrench, but not by the motor?

Or maybe there is something bent in there? I've never looked too closely at how it works, but if you can wrench it closed, it must be a relatively minor problem (hopefully)



I need to tighten my clutch up a little as mine doesn't open too easily. It needs a little bump to get it started, then it works ok...
