*Disclaimer* My prior advice was preceded with "IF the alternator is shot"

Do you have a multimeter? If so, you can directly measure the voltage coming from the alternator post, and compare it to the voltage at the positive battery post. If theres a big drop, then you have a wiring problem. However more often than not, the alternator needs replacement.

I wouldnt worry about the waterpump..... and you couldnt find it from above because its behind the timing cover..... but its easily visible from below on the driver side (2 small hoses and the lower radiator hose connect to it).
