Are you SURE you know what you're doing with that wire there? The TCU is completely separate from the ECU, so connecting a ground to A4 should have absolutely no effect whatsoever on your engine. It changes the way the transmission shifts, nothing more.

So it's either that the wire you connected did something important (eek!), or the fact that the transmission is asking more of your engine and your engine can't deliver. I think the second one sounds more plausible. Performance modifications on a vehicle that isn't sound are going to be iffy at best.
