I don't believe any long term damage will be done by unplugging the tranny resistor (behind the battey). It will keep full line pressure. The decreasing line pressure shenanigans were simply devised for comfort purposes, since the shifts can get a little firm with the torquey engine. I have yet to do it, but some folks swear by it, so I might try it....But I'm no guru, so don't quote me
