ABS is only designed to counter the "Oh Crap" scenario. If your ABS kicks in, then you are braking loose one of your wheels and increasing your braking distance anyway.

Lots of people believe they can outbrake ABS and a few of them are right, but when you look up from changing radio stations and see the line of cars in front of you stopped, 99.99% of the people will mash the brake pedal.

I'd rather have the car behind me have ABS than to be their next hood ornament.
