I wonder how may units out there are actually originals, as the first unit truly sucked. My '94 has passive arming and it should have the second gen module from the factory, if I recall correctly.
It wasn't the passive arming that plagued mine, it was forever losing its programming, going off in the middle of the night while inside my garage (which was under the master bedroom) and refusing to accept new programming for a few days at a time.
