A can or two of Lysol does a good job as well, just have the windows open and don't be inside the car while "cleaning" the vents. Just be sure to pick a fragrance that you can live with for a few weeks, as the Lysol smell will linger for awhile. I've had a couple of bouts of the old sock smell in the AC and Lysol has never failed. Now, I usually run in the ECON mode for a minute or so before shutting down the AC to minimize condensation in the vents and haven't had to do the Lysol thing for at least 3 years now.
