Edit: It seems that the oil doesn't actually run through the cam, so you'd "just" need to figure out a creative way to route the lines between the cam pulley and the head itself (can't go through the head as the secondary cam gears are in the way) and mount the solenoid somewhere.

Well yes it does as the ACVS rotates.
If you look at the diagram that you linked to.
The system is, oil pressure is switched by the solenoid to a feed that goes into the head casting to feed the front cam bearing, the cam has a hole in it, that connects by a drilling through to the front of the cam, to the ACVS. Bit of machining on the cam shaft, and some oil passages drilled in the head, not insurmountable.
