Run your external cooler in series as suggested upthread, or ditch it altogether. Where you live, you probably don't need it.
I have a medium-sized supplemental cooler, in series. It was twenty-two degrees here this morning, and my TC didn't lock at all during my 12+ mile drive to work (@ 55-70 MPH, hilly terrain, 1 traffic light). Clearly, at this time of year, I don't need the added cooler. But come summertime...
