A few key things to check. 1st of all drive the snot out of it before you buy it. Don't set out to break it, but DO be a bit rough on it. Since it has an odd wheel/tire on it you can't check for torque bind. Just be aware, that could rear it's ugly head once you get new tires. If it runs, drives & shifts well, then by ALL MEANS buy it. Torque bind is fixable.
A little duct tape will hold that airbag in place, at least until you can get the new steering wheel installed. You also need to replace the crash switch.
For $1g be prepared to have to spend some money on it. It doesn't sound like you'll need to spend a ton of cash though. Be prepared, as these cars are notoriously expensive to repair. Especially if you have to hire the work done.

Having said that, I don't want to talk you out of it. I'm just being realistic, and honest.
