Put your knee on the corner of the rear bumper and put weight on it in a bouncing motion. As you do this pay attention to how it recovers, listen for any sounds or non-fluid movement. Check the strut body to see if it is damp also, it should be dry as a bone. You don't have anything in the trunk (Had to ask).
