Sounds like the MAF sensor to me. Check all the plastic bits going to the intake first. Make sure they're all tight and not cracked also, the hoses for tight fit and splits. If that all checks out, try to borrow a "known good" MAF sensor and see if that's the problem.

You could also try cleaning the throttle body. It could be gettin' gooey in there and the butterflies or IRIS "flapper" are sticking.
