Like you said, without a picture/idea as to how big/bad the scratch really is, it's hard to say how much it would cost to have painted.
Look at it this way, for $300 Earl Scheib (sp) will paint any car any color.
Maco will paint your car for around the same (granted neither will do a good job)
Some shops may charge you that much for just the scratch, other may only charge you the going labor rate for an hr (say $60 and hour as a guess) plus the cost of material, which will vary, more if they have to mix a batch just for you (which they most likely will) less if they have another car of the same color being painted already.
Your best bet is paint from Subaru or Paintscratch.com, or just taking to a body shop for an estimate (almost always free)
