Thanks alot for your help. I don't know what I would do without this forum. I was getting a littled frustrated there.
Anyway, I didn't notice the 1-2 shifting abnormality (I was having before) after disconnecting the resistor, which from what I've heard, indicates the resistor's going bad. So I'll probably leave it disconnected. It was surprising at how hard the shifts were afterwards though. I hope it doesn't cause long-term damage.
