So what you're saying is it is a white button with black paint? The letters are absent of paint in order to light up. If this is the case just do the opposite of everything I said and paint the whole button black again after doing a reverse stencil. Can you settle for a non illuminated button? Maybe use one the blanks and modify it to function like a regular button.
