I would recommend Jay Peak in northern Vermont. It is very close to Montreal, the snow is the best in the East, the skiing is great for all levels, and the prices are very reasonable. I have been there 4 times for week long vacations and the whole family loved it. There are many slope side condos and a hotel at the base. They have tree skiing for kids and out of bounds skiing for adults is actually encouraged. The area does cater to Canadians with all trail signs in both French and English.

The one downside is that there is not much to do other than ski. You can go sleigh riding but there is no "village" like at other places. Things may have changed as I have not been there in ~ 4 years.

A multitude of skis to feed my need to go faster, faster until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death.
