Not necessarily. Internal tranny repairs are not for the faint of heart - trust me.

Dealers just over charge for SVX repairs. I've heard $800-$1000 to replace the transfer clutch and solenoid on the SVX. On my Legacy, I was quoted $350-$400 for the same repair.
