I probably did get ripped off. I feel like I get ripped off every time I take this car in for a repair. On the other hand I first took it to a dealer on the SVX Shop Search site that has a 4.5 rating and they gave me an estimate of $1000 plus. Guess a guy needs to learn to do these things himself.
