I concur with the sentiment expressed in this thread but can't understand why everyone seems so perplexed that anyone out to turn a buck (or cut their losses) would part-out an SVX. It's simple economics: If you've got a car needing more of a financial expenditure than the prevailing resale value, absent some emotional attachment to the car, repair makes little sense.
Surely I've spent more on the SVX I bought last August than I paid for the car (front wheel bearings and tone wheels, ABS sensor, antenna, rear wiper, 4-wheel alignment, hoses, fluids and filters and so-on), and you know what it would be worth if I tried tried to sell it here on the Network? About half what I have in it. Maybe. If I were really, really lucky.
Unless and until the value appreciates, people will break 'em in increasing numbers. Sad fact.
