risen from the dead.......

I read where people write in about their SVX's parting them out because they were in a wreck, or worse. This is a story of a Black 92 that was put back on the road.

My 19 yr old son has already owned 7 different Subarus. I told him about a SVX that was for sale in a town close to Omaha. He went there to check it out, and he called me to say the guy had 2 for sale. The guy didn't bother to advertise the black one because it was in such bad mechanical condition. His plans were to remove the engine and install it in his VW Vanagan (he already had a XT6 engine in it) He realized it would be ALOT more work and decided against it. ANYWAY, my son bought the Black SVX. The problems were..

Different sized tires
P/S didn't work and leaked
Climate controls wouldn't switch
gas gauge didn't work
alot of dash light bulbs out
only the front wheels were powered, AWD inop
ABS inop
Radiator had bad crack in top
intermittant no start cond....
security system inop
lots of other small things that didn't work or were broke
Timing Belt
Struts blown
parking brake not working

Added, Trans cooler....and vanity plate that reads BOXER 6

I think the guy felt guilty selling a car to a kid with so many problems....little did he know thats just the kind of car Jim likes to buy!

Now, all of the above has been fixed. Jim did all the work himself, except fixing the rear wheel drive to operate(fixed at transmission shop I work for). Some things were simply taking the time and $$$ to fix, others like the intermittant starting were a little more challanging! He has installed a 97 grill, side emblems, deep tinted windows, hood bra. He then sold the car to his Mother, as her '97 Legacy GT will soon be driven by my daugher when she turns 16. Jim is down to just owning 4 Subarus here at home, with the latest being a 05 Legacy GT...lucky for him that he found a job in the service dept. of the local Subaru dealership.

I just want to thank the members of the SVX Network here. There are so many great people that help with advice, or directions to other websites when it came to finding parts, or hints to fix problems. It made the whole thing much easier!! The SVS is now a daily driver, and again racking up the miles.
