Hey Trevor I replaced my AAVC a couple of years ago - NZ$40.00 (also got Giltraps to give me back the old one - they said it was a non-serviable part..)
The car was smoking during idle - white/grey smoke, thought it was oil (which it was - the AAVC was clogged, bi-mettalic strip could not pull shut because of oil)- I cleaned the old one out with white spirits - now boxed in my garage, checked it with 12V pulled close no problems.
