If you have an exhaust leak right before the resonator, it's probably a gasket that's worn down. This could be a really cheap fix (gasket's run about $5, and labor will take less that 1/2 hour).
However, if you want to use this as an excuse to get a Stebro or SVX motorsports exhaust system...
