140 miles and all's... well... better...

Today I drove my SVX 140 miles for the first time in over a year. Here's my updated status report.

Well, first of all it's still throwing a check-engine light despite having replaced the cam position sensor I thought might be bad. I just posted about this here.

Beyond that, she ran great. When starting up the engine warm she's tending to stumble a little for a moment before catching... that could be water in the fuel I guess. Anyone else any thoughts on that one?

The wheel bearing noise is definitely gone. Drove at 60-65 for over an hour through Missouri and Illinois (South on 270, 255 up through Illinois back onto 270 West and finally back down 40 to Chesterfield Valley for lunch at Kaldi's). She rode straight and true the entire way, no sign of problems. Saw a black SVX on 270 up in the 270 / 170 interchange area... anyone here? Very dark tinted windows... I'm sure my tinted windows didn't help... but I couldn't see the driver.

Anyway... on a positive note I have to report that the smell of burning popcorn appears to be abating. I guess it was just crud in the exhaust burning off, or maybe a rodent nest in the muffler. I may never know... but nothing seems to be burning any more. Maybe too early to tell; it's a windy and cold day. However, every time I stopped at lights after my run I cracked the window a smidgen to see if I could smell anything... nothing out of the ordinary. Then when I got home I bent down behind the exhaust pipes and could smell nothing unusual. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

Don't know if the water problem remains... the exhaust tips look dry inside so I'm making the assumption at the moment that the water problem has also abated with a bit of driving. However, it's been raining today so it'd be tough to tell. I'll keep an eye on this and report back.

For now... a successful and rather relaxing drive. Next step; she's got an appointment on Thursday afternoon to have the muffler taken out and replaced with a salvaged muffler I got over a year ago... and a state inspection so I can get the tags updated.

I'll keep the group abreast of changes... any feedback greatly appreciated!
