Had a black male cat once that played a kind of singles tennis match with mice he would catch in the yard. He would fling the little things so high, they qualified for frequent flier miles. It seems strange that intelligent hunters play with the prey. It may be a learning mode, or triumphalism.

My FEMALE DOG catches odd things like butterflies, moths and even bees, and plays with them for a while before the chop. Our garden is not an awfully safe place to be if you are of a certain size!!
