I misspoke. It's a normal failure. The most stressed place on the bearing is pitted from transfer of material. The rollers/or ballbearings will show a similar amount of wear.
I work on industrial equpment, and change out failed bearings on a nearly daily basis. Just be glad that the inner races don't sieze to the rollers, the result being that it eats the hub. This is the most common failure at work, siezed bearings take out the shaft they're supporting.
