erg. they told me at the shop that it was the starter, but, you just described the problem, I think, sometimes when I go to start the car, nothing happens, but after a few tries, it starts right up. really embarrassing in a gas station parking lot to sit there clicking the ignition.

There has been band-aid fixes suggested here and used by several members, but the evidence is that faulty ignition switch start contacts are at the seat of the issue.
