VIN info for you all
There has been some recent debate around here about where cars are made. Yes Honda now makes more cars here then in Japan. Nissan is close. ford makes more models in Mexico then Dodge does. GM seems to build alot in Canada. Here is an easy way to tell. Current federal law, that is also agreed upon by all brands, states the first character in the Vehicle Identification Number shall designate the point of final assembly. Here is the list from the latest VIN code book released by the National Insurance Crime Bureau:
1 - United States
2 - Canada
3 - Mexico
4 - United States
J - Japan
W - Germany
S - Sweden
G - Great Britian (UK)
F - France
K - Korea
A - Australia
T - Italy
N - Netherlands
E - Spain
The Legacy, built for the most part in Indiana starts with a 4. Our Forester, built in Gunma, Japan, starts with a J. Check out any Honda Accord. They all start with a 4. Most of the VW Jettas have 3's, as do alot of fords. Most Chevy products are 2's. Hope this helps you all out.
