It worked in the PM.

I really doubt that that is happening Jim.
A lot of people have done this, no problems.

If you used that relay, the cruise won't trigger the starter.
If it did, you would have certainly noticed it. (chain saw noise)
If it did it would not stop the engine, it has a freewheel in the starter gear, that would eventually blow up.

It would have to cut the Ign to stop it. So I would suspect the Ignition switch.
