Essentially the resistor was a red herring and my particular issue was that the fuel pump connector was burned out causing an intermittent outage of the fuel pump.
To help rule that out with your car I would just double-check that plug on top of the fuel tank, where the wiring harness connectors are located. You must look inside the plug at the pins to verify they are are viable.
If the plug and connectors all look ok, check the continuity of the harness heading forward to the front of the car.
