I get what you are saying about the belt.

On the valve cover gaskets, the originals lasted 15 years and 80K miles. I have put 70K miles on the car since but it has only been 8 years. Do you really think these need to be done? I am on the fence on this one. If so, do these need to be from Subaru or would one of the aftermarket kits with all the seals be fine? https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...70516&jsn=3630

The actual hydraulic actuator. If the original can be compressed, installed and released without problems, use it. But I would keep a new one on hand in case if the original fails. Return it if you don’t need it and maybe replace it at the next timing belt change.

As for the valve cover gaskets, check them over for leaks when the engine is out of the car. You can tighten any loose ones if necessary.they should be snug, not really tight.

Use OEM ones. Tom Krynock replaced valve cover gaskets on Dan Mancini’s SVX. DAN provided aftermarket ones he bought from eBay about $20.00 cheaper.

They looked fine, even to Tom. Fit snug as expected. After installing and driving around, they started leaking. The engine heat caused them to become soft and warp. Dan had to buy OEM ones and have the job done all over again.
