I have fond memories of our family's old Electrolux. It was a tank type on skids. Push button and handle on top; rounded front that opened to get to the bag. The hose could be attached to the exaust to blow air in a particular direction.....toward my sister, usually.

Granny had a Kirby, and we have it downstairs somewhere. I once heard a Russian AN-24 transport with four turboprops, counter-rotating. Sounded exactly like a Kirby. Larry is correct; they could pull nails from floorboards. I think I remember a Jerry Lewis movie where he sucked a dog up in a Kirby. (no animals were hurt in the making of the scene)
