It is like somebody is hitting the brake while it shifts. Does anybody know what could be causing this? Or how to fix it? I did recently install the small car shift kit which appears to be working fine (except from 2-3). The shifts are smooth at slow speeds and firm with high revs.

Please, I need ideas!!! Could adjusting the brake band help?

Thanks,
Matt.
adjustment of the brake band is recommended for "braking action at the shift from 2-3" per the Chilton manual. sounds like it might be the cure.
