Sorry can't help as my car has all those bits on the right and correct side.

I don't thnk it has anything to do with the purge control solenoid valve from what I can see of where it is placed but you could trace the wires.

Another thought.

The bonnet (hood) is sealed at the rear edge, just in front of the A/C intake vent, with a rubber compression strip. If this strip is damaged or out of place engine fumes might be drawn into the A/C system. Worth the simple check involved.
