any suggestions? I am not sure exactly what I am asking, but wouldnt a dirty or bad MAF code show up? Now I am wondering if it isn't the fuel.

Code wouldn't necessarily show up. I would try to replace it with a known working one. A MAF out of a Legacy will work as long as it's a JECS sensor from a 90-94 Legacy.
