The Christmas tree lights on the dash is indicative usually of an alternator issue, and add in the loss of power steering and it makes me think a belt issue. It could also be the crank pulley separating allowing things to slip.

It looks like the crank pulley.
Does anyone have a crank pulley in decent shape?
