As for the laptop, try to get the guy who rear ended you to cover it. His insurance won't, but if you "offer" to sue him in civil court, he may give up the couple hundred bucks to get it fixed.

As for warranties, no warranty (manufacturer or extended) will cover physical damage to a screen.

Ebay may be your best bet. Remember most LCDs are interchangeable. So as long as you have the same size, the manufacturer or even if it is from a desktop display shouldn't matter.

I've replaced the LCD in my Thinkpad with one from a LG 15 desktop display I got off of Ebay.
