adjusters can be changed w/out removing engine but ...

On my Sub's the best thing to kill the lash adjuster tic is Risilone (yellow quart bottle). I added a quart at every oil change for 40,000 miles before I changed the VLA's (lifters, cam followers, etc). I also found that 10w30 works best in winter and straight 30w in summer.

To remove the lash adjusters you have to remove the timing belt, cam shafts, rear timing cover, valve covers. It's not a difficult job just time consuming and I'm sure a real pain considering the clearance around the valve covers/cam towers.

Try the MMO and Risilone first (not at the same time).
