My cat

I wont say that I removed my third "Y" pipe cat.... Lets just say its there and has no restriction. My experience with this has not been that good. I have a few hundred time slips from the track to look at before and after. For those of you who DONT know, I just finished my second full season racing the SVX at the quarter mile race strip. Anyways.... My results are this:

- An average of two tenths of a second slower at the 60 foot trap.
- Noticable loss of low end torque under 3500 rpms.
- By the 1000 foot mark the lost two tenths were made up.
- At the end of the quarter mile, total gain was about 2 tenths average.

In sort, there is a "small" gain, but at the cost of launching a bit slower. I am sure there is MORE benefit by not having it, but I would bet its all wide open throttle performance and probably above normal street and highway speeds. Keep in mind that the fairy tales about someone cutting the cat out and getting 20 more horsepower out of it, is more like someone who had a plugged cat, cut it out and got the 20 horsepower that a plugged exhaust was robbing him of. That does NOT mean he just got 20 free HP! And for those who need to "see" it... here it is:
SVX=230 HP @ crank
WRONG MATH 230+20=250 hp! Yea (NOT)
Real life math 230-20(plugged exhaust)+20(cutting out restriction)=230 hp that you SHOULD have had to begin with.

There.. My $0.02 AND real life experience.
