No. The oil pan only needs to be removed to replace the oil pan gasket, fix a leak, etc..
The oil seal/front main seal and O-ring can be replaced after you remove the oil pump.
Make sure that you tighten the screws on the back of the oil pump.

I have the oil pump off, I've changed the crank/oil pump seal. Do I need to look inside the area where the plate with 5 phillips screws is? Is the oil pump O ring the quarter size O ring at the lower passenger side oil passage? So far this is so easy. My luck is "I should have broken something by now". Only thing broken is timing cover plastic, NBG

My crank sprocket came off like a loving puppy, what a shock! I had forgotten all the mystery bolts on the water pump, bent one bolt, ugh.
