Brian, its pretty easy to check alternator output volts, just use your multimeter between the positive and negative battery terminals while the cars running. Check for volts at idle and revving at around 2000 RPM. Normal voltage is between 13 to 14.75 volts for a good charging system. Voltage of the battery while idling is 11.5
Voltage of Alternator while idling is about 11.8.
So by what you're saying, I bought a bunk alternator?
