I agree. These facts seem lost on most folks. Around here I'm amazed by how people hammer the throttle when the light turns green... just to get to the next traffic light. Sorry; that's just stupid. Recently I decided to keep up with the flow at a light here in town and was astonished how hard I had to accelerate, relative to how I normally drive. Apparently most folks literally mat the gas. When did everyone start driving this way, and why?

When I head toward Atlanta I always resolve to set the cruise at a comfortable pace and leave it alone, knowing from experience I'd get 28-30 MPG, but alas, as the traffic builds it becomes necessary to exercise the gas pedal just to keep from getting run over.
