Option 2 sounds like a great plan!
Except how will you sell your original alternator without it's casings? 
Wonder if Maniac would accept back a core in pieces? IE, the coated casings you want them to use on the 160A rebuild, along with the "guts" of the old alternator which they are going to rebuild and put the casings you aren't using on anyway.
