Sounds like a bad or dirty conection somwhere. Could be a dirty battery terminal.
If you turn on the lights, don't worry if they don't work, leave them on, lift the hood and feel all the connections around the battery and fuse box. If there is a bad one, it will heat up and you will feel it .
